The Instigators: Episode 15 – Home Streak

Posted by on

On the Valentine's Day installment of the Instigators: LIVE, Billy was moderating the discussion between Brian Leetch, Barry P, and Mark Mowers. Nice pink tie Mark.
A discussion about how impressive the Detroit Red Wings twenty-one game home winning streak occurred. With the NHL’s welfare point system, the streak may seem less impressive, but considering the amount of parity in the league, it is unlikely this record will be broken anytime soon. Think of all the great dynasty’s the league has seen (Montreal, 70s Bruins, 80s Islanders, 80s Oilers, 90s Penguins, etc) and none of those teams came close. Detroit has had many Cup contending teams over the years, and this might not even be one of their most impressive teams. The Red Wings lost their starting goaltender (Jimmy Howard) and have AHL starter Joey MacDonald making the saves. Plus, Red Wigns compete in maybe the best division in the league. Should be interesting to see how much damage they can do in the playoffs.
