This week’s installment of The Instigators LIVE had Tom moderating the discussion between BillyJ, BarryP, and playmaker Craig Janney. Man, we had no idea Janney hung on in the NHL until the 1999 season. We thought that dude fell off the map once the Bruins shipped him out (with Stephane Quintal) for Adam Oates. Actually, check that, I do remember him lighting it up for the Blues.
This week the Instigators discussed what was wrong with the Buffalo Sabers. After making some trades last year at the deadline and some big money free agent signings in the off-season, many expected Buffalo to challenge for the Northeast Division crown. That has not materialized. It is easy to point to the Lucic / Miller situation as a prime example of how the Sabers are just not tough enough. Teams lacking toughness aren’t going to win on the road often and Buffalo established a new franchise record road losing streak this season. Additionally, Lindy Ruff is a great coach, but he’s been there for ever and may have worn out his welcome years ago.
Sure Ryan Miller has not played well, but he has not getting a lot of help out there. Johnas Enroth has had his moments, but he’s not an NHL starting goaltender. There are no quick fixes because many current Sabers contracts are untradable, so the Buffalo faithful should continue to have their faith tested for the foreseeable future.
