The Instigators LIVE: Episode 3 – Down & Out in Columbus

Posted by on

Billy was moderating The Instigators LIVE this week and it was a lively episode after another rousing Bruins victory. Joined by former UNH Wildcat Mark Mowers and former Maine Black Bear Mike Morrison, Jack was making clever (and apt!) Monty Python references! Since the Bruins play Columbus this week, we thought it we would expand on the topic of how to save the Blue Jackets.
There are no quick fixes for the Blue Jackets; they are by far the worst team in the league. This season is already a lost cause. To make matters worse, Columbus is up against the salary cap so trading their way out of this is not an option. First off, before firing coach Scott Arniel and GM Scott Howson, I would give the team some time to skate with a healthy Jeff Carter. If they do not rattle off some wins, it is time to blow the whole thing up and start over. With a team full of overpaid nobodys, they are going to have to trade Rick Nash. Stockpile draft picks, finish dead last at least two or three seasons in a row, win the draft lottery, and build from within. Build from the crease out, with goaltending and defense first; Steve Mason is not going to lead you deep into the playoffs. But keep Jared Boll!
One problem with this plan is that it will take years, and their fans may not be that patient. It could be the end of the road for professional ice hockey in Columbus which is really a shame because they had strong fan support there for a couple of seasons.
