59th Annual Beanpot Tournament Begins Tonight

There are a lot of haters when it comes to the Beanpot Tournament, and the Sully's Crew just cannot understand the hate. Everyone should have something so special to share on the first two Mondays in February. What could be better then the four best college hockey teams in “town” squaring off for bragging rights and one of the best trophies outside of the Stanley Cup.
The 2011 BU Invitational Tournament features your Terriers squaring off against heavily the heavily favored Boston “Newton” College Eagles in the first round at 8 PM. Northeastern and Harvard will skate in the early game to decide who gets to make a poor attempt at a Cinderella style victory in the Championship game. Northeastern has not hoisted the trophy in twenty-three years and we cannot see that streak ending this year. NU had a golden opportunity to get back on top in 2009 and blew it. It could be another decade before they get back to the Championship game.
Sadly it looks like Newton College’s year. We just hope the referees let the kids play. The regular season BU / BC contests this season featured some of the absolutely softest officiating I ever seen in college hockey. And that is a bold statement considering how soft the officiating has become. Enjoy the game. Let’s play hockey!
