Tyler Seguin Wins 7th Player Award

Every year Bruins fans hand out Seventh Player Award, which is presented to the Bruin who went above and beyond the call of duty and exceeded the expectations during the regular season. Past couple years there have been clear winners; Marchand (2011), Rask (2010), Krejci (2009) and Lucic (2008). This year’s race featured two strong candidates in our opinion, Seguin and Chris Kelly.
Seguin took the award home on the strength of leading the team in points as a 20-year-old, potentially leading the team in goals, and nearly leading the league in plus / minus.
No doubt this was a strong sophomore campaign to follow up a Stanley Cup Freshman season second, but he was the #2 overall pick not that long ago. Great things were expected of him this season and those expectations were either exceeded or met depending on who you ask.
The Sully’s Crew’s vote went to Kelly. Kelly is having a career year as a dependable third line center and penalty killer. Where would the Bruins be without his six game winning goals? Only Seguin has more with 7 GWGs. No one expected such a productive offensive season from Kelly, and that is why he got our vote.
