Varlamov Ruins Monday Matinee / Peverley Resigned

Unsung playoff contributor Rich Peverley signed a three-year contract extension on Tuesday. Rumor has it the deal averages $3.25 million per season, which is maybe a bit generous, but overall this is a deal we can get behind.
FACT: The Bruins do not win the Cup last season if they keep Wheeler and do not pick up Rich Peverley. We were less psyched about giving up Mark Stuart, but you had DARTH QUAIDER to fill that role so Stuart was expendable.

The Bruins offense laid an egg on Monday afternoon at the Garden, being outplayed and eventually shutout by the Colorado Avalanche 1-0. Hejduk scored the Avalanche's first goal (any only goal) of the season, and it was the difference. Tuukka stood tall all afternoon, repeatedly bailing out his teammates. In fact, the only goal that got by Rask appeared to be deflected off Chara’s shin pad.
The Avs started fast in the first, controlling play and forcing Boston to take minor penalties. The Bruins did have several golden scoring chances, but were unable to find the back of the net. It was a frustrating game to watch. We like Joe Sacco (he was solid at BU from ’88-‘89) and hope he does well. Hard to believe he was not fired after the second half collapse in Denver last season.
